Cell Phone Reviews - The Samsung Epic 4G

Cell Phone Reviews - The Samsung Epic 4G
By Jayden Cooper
There's no denying that the Samsung line of Galaxy S phones are impressive devices with their solid specs and gorgeous Super AMOLED displays. The Epic 4G continues Samsung's tradition of releasing powerful and stylish hardware, but adds a little more muscle to the mix.
At the heart, the Epic has a 1GHZ Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor - an engine designed to handle multiple tasks like streaming video, updating social media contacts and pushing the display without bogging down.
What sets this phone apart from some of its Galaxy S brethren is the inclusion of a hardware keyboard and front-facing camera.
As mentioned, the Galaxy S line offers some of the slickest designs you'll find in the phone arena. The Epic is a sexy slab of glass with rounded corners and a glossy black finish. Yeah, it's a fingerprint magnet, but it's a beautiful fingerprint magnet.
As cell phones become more like mini computers, manufactures are starting to realize that in many cases, bigger is better. The Samsung Epic 4G comes with a 4-inch display, which seems to be the sweet spot - just big enough for better web browsing and video playback and still small enough to be pocketable.
In addition to the on-screen keyboard, the Epic comes with a hardware keyboard as well. The keyboard is one of the better ones you'll find with spacious keys and good tactile response.
Like most manufactures of Android powered devices, Samsung has added their own skin over stock Android. Dubbed TouchWiz, this interface is not as attractive as, say, HTC's Sense, but it's still a quick. customizable and intuitive interface.
If there is one drawback to the Epic then it has to be the high price tag. Clocking in at $249.99, it's one of the more expensive phones you can buy. But, Samsung and Sprint will argue that the 4G network combined with the power of the device itself, make it a worthwhile purchase.
The bottom line is that, while there are cheaper options available, if you're a Sprint customer and want a top-of-the-line device, the Samsung Epic 4G won't disappoint.
